Let Me Explain… no, there is too much… Let Me Sum Up

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Last weekend we took some extra time and went up north to visit family.  Ethan decided he was now terrified of Grammy’s horses was eventually even reluctant to go outside to get in the car.  Victor was terrified to sleep in the room he always does so we eventually put the boys in the same room.  They slept, amazingly, with only a modicum of giggles, running feets, and chatter.  At the family camp on the lake the weather was lovely and the boys decided to play in the water.  Unprepared for this as I was they did it, increasingly, unclothed and I (and Grammy) got very, very wet.  At Gramps/Nana’s house, when someone spilt some water on the porch floor and Victor saw the dog lick it up, he promptly walked over, bent at the waist, pressed his face to the spot and started licking it up, too (after it had been walked in and splashed in by Ethan).  We had a great time seeing everyone.  On the way home Ethan surprised us by singing along to the 80’s classic Electric Avenue (he earned himself a new Laurie Berkner cd for that).
I delivered another batch of soap to Kate, in person, for her boss’ cafe to sell since the last batch was lost in the mail.  Wednesday I got an email from the person who has the soap (inadvertently delivered), which Kate will be picking up next week sometime.  We have yet to figure out what to do since this means two batches for 1 price.  Hopefully, now that the crazy soap-making rush is over, I can find the time to take pictures and get the website up at least in rudimentary form.

Ken took off Tuesday so that we could spend one day returning to life at home.  The boys were very glad to get home.  We went shopping and bought more cars because you just can’t have enough matchbox cars.  No.  You can’t.

Victor caught a cold up north and brought it home.  Ken took today off because of the cold plus I pulled something in my back last weekend and finally gave up my stiff-upper-lip this morning and saw the chiropractor and Victor threw up over breakfast (still, we think it’s just a cold) plus Ken has (but might have evaded) a sinus infection.  It’s going to pour rain, so they say (I have my doubts), and the temperatures will drop and we’ll be able to sleep again.  I look forward to that as the past week has been irritatingly hot.  Also, Victor has decided his window fan is scary.

You know what, though?  Because the weather has cooled and dried out, I can show you the anniversary present I bought Ken (and myself) a few months ago!  WORKING!   Granted, atm it’s not working accurately because we don’t have one of the gears in (for the hour hand) and we’re not convinced it’ll keep working, but I can show you motion!  That’s 15 seconds and 8mb of ACTION! :P   We may paint it, we may not, it needs numbers, but dudes, it works!

Soap

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Well I’ve spent the summer and finally built up my inventory again after the larger order from a coffee house up north (and the subsequent loss of that order, damned postal thief!).  I sent samples up to them again, to choose what they like to replace the loss.  I hope they like.  I also took a picture of some of the soaps to give them an idea of how they’re wrapped (since the samples aren’t).  What do you think? (I’ve restricted the image size for my blog, so if you want to see the larger image right-click and “view image”.)

Busy

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Yet again I seem to have allowed my eyes to perceive something as smaller/more simple than it truly is.  I’ve bitten off (almost) more than I can chew.  Or rather, I’ve made a decision that’s tougher than it appears.  Not a huge deal, but it means shifting priorities.

This is all a long-winded way of saying that I’ve found an adorable thing to make for Ethan that he’s going to LOVE.  Lately he’s been using various toys to simulate drinking tea and serving myself and Victor and Ken tea.  He’s all about the tea.  So I looked for a cheap, not so girly, tea set for him.  No dice.  Instead, he’ll be getting this.  Cute, huh?  I’ve already got one full cup and saucer done in bright orange and part of the pitcher in bright blue, done.  The “biting off more than I can chew” comes from that it’s going to take me a bit longer than I’d anticipated to finish it and it occured to me that it’ll make a fantastic birthday present for him (we’re also taking him to Dorney/Water Kingdom).  He’ll love it.  If I can get it done in time (3wks).  I’d like to make four cups, instead of just two, so that we all have one.   This, on top of the Christmas stockings I’d wanted to get started on while Ken’s in HK means I’ll be busy.  I’ve also discovered Amigurumi and am just in love with them!  Kawaii!  I stumbled across a bunch of patterns (free – Lion Brand) and can’t wait to make some up for the boys!  I already whipped off a cute little angel fish that I converted into a bath mitt for the boys.  I’d show you a pic but we just redid the computer and Ken needs to re-find photoshop (and set up the ftp prog).

Plus I’m in the midst of making soap and more soap.  The big order that ended up getting stolen from Kate’s porch is still in limbo since they’d like to see some more samples and still sell my soap.  Fantastic, but I have zero inventory to send them so I’ve been working on getting soap made and cured to send for choosing.  I’ve got a list of batches to make, 7 more at this point, that I want to get done asap.  I’m hoping within the next few weeks.  Then I’ll have a nicely rounded variety to send them with 12 different choices available.  I’m hoping to take some pictures this week to put on my website with prices, should anybody decide they’d like to buy my soap before hell freezes over I get the website up.

All Call

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I’m starting to realize that I need help with the website for my soaps.  Does anyone know anyone (or can anyone, themselves) program with PHP and/or OSCommerce?  I need the site up several months ago and I just.don’t.have.the.time. to figure it all out.  I’m sure Ken’ll yell at me for not doing it myself but I just *throws hands into air*

I’m willing to barter or pay (preferably the former, not so much the latter).

Jess recommended I take pictures of what I have and just put those up for now with prices and have people email me.  I can send proper invoices and take paypal/credit payments, just not the way a “proper” website should look (with a “shopping cart” and such).  I’m labelling soaps tonight, so perhaps the next sunny day I’ll take pictures and get things going, but still.  Stop.gap.solution.

1, 2, 3 Punch

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Amazing, isn’t it, that bad things tend to happen in 3’s?  Yesterday it was a quick succession of them.  A large order of soap that I’d sent up north was lost (LARGE order), and they practically cleaned me out so I can’t even replace the soaps (though they’re interested in still buying so once I’ve more made I’ll send up samples and we’ll see).

Right after that was confirmed lost, one of the boys yet again tore the “comfort cables” off Ethan’s glasses (unwearable without them) and promptly lost one of them.  Since we *just* replaced his glasses this past weekend, that did *not* make for a happy Mommy.
Best was for last as Ken called (which drew me into the kitchen to spy the cable tucked under the cupboard) and asked me to find his passport.  His co-worker, Kris, will be going to HK this monday for 2wks and Ken’s likely going to be going after he gets back (around the start of July).   The best part(s) is that nobody has been able to get work visas into China (speculation that the US making it hard for people to get them here is causing retaliation), so they’re sending Kris off to HK (free country – no visa required) to sit and wait and hope a visa can be aquired.  If not they’ll bring him work from the mainland and he’ll do what he can and come back in 2wks having wasted a LOT of time.  Ken’s likely going to be in the same boat, except his boat has the possibility of doubling in size since he’s got two projects that’ll need support back-to-back so it’s possible (though we don’t know how likely) he’ll end up being there for a month.  We’re so SO happy about that.

I could handle things better if there was less at once.  The economy makes it so much harder for him to find a job or for us to sell the house should he find one.  His job sucks so bad right now and he’s hardly home.  The boys are running me ragged and driving me up the wall with their constant rule-pushing/breaking (I’ve also finger-confirmed 3 molars in Victor’s mouth have broken gum – cranky, but with a reason).  All that plus political stresses (the incoming recession, etc) and environmental stresses (wtf?!).  I wish I could just get a break long enough to relax.  At least our anniversary is this weekend, so I’ve something special planned for/with Ken that’ll be nice.

The Longest Post

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Get comfy, this one’s going to take a while. So long, in fact, that I’m going to categorize it.

Children
I’m so far behind in doing the boys letters that I’ve decided to skip them this month entirely. That’s not to say lots has happened – it’s always happening, but I just can’t keep up with all that’s going on as well as cataloging it right now. Ethan’s being a better boy but hates to eat. Victor’s talking more, understands basically everything we say and is starting into the “willful disobedience” and pushing his limits and whining. The last part is my favourite. They get along fairly well these days, too, which is nice.

Kate and Austin visited this past weekend and the boys slowed down (barely) enough for me to capture their images with other people…
Soap
Things are going quite well in that everything is wrapped up and pretty looking and ready to go. I still haven’t got my website up yet (I KNOW! believe me, I do!) but I’m having things move ahead anyways. Kate bought some and took some samples up for her boss who runs, on the side, a cafe. Kate believes he may be interested in the soaps, specifically the coffee ones (naturally). I’ve already got formulas written up for a few new soaps to try next, but I want to wait and see what happens with other things, first. Ken made a good suggestion for the scrubby soap to be less lathery (to encourage more scrubbing) so I’m going to try and figure that into the next formula, as well as adding pumice since it’s a finer “grit”. I may, or may not, continue adding the coffee grounds.

Home Improvements
With spring upon us, Ken and I find ourselves turning into little bees and getting.things.done. Just today I spent hours in Home Despot buying paint and wood and cable and things. We’re going to be painting the foyer (light greyish-blueish), the downstairs bath (pinky-peachy), the boys bath (bluey-greeny) and the unpainted wall in the office (it will be shelves eventually, but until it is we’re painting it “shelf colour”). I’ll take some pictures tomorrow so I have “before” shots. The wood and cable are for Ken to build a shelf above the tele to move our electronic stuffs there since the tower unit we have isn’t working so well – the couch, being where it is, allows for easy access from little boys. While Kate and Austin were here last weekend, Ken and I went out shopping and bought decorative stuffs for those same little boys’ bathroom upstairs (which is why we’re ready to paint). We were in Tarjay and saw the most adorable penguin set we just had to have it. So we did:

Before:
After:
Before:
After:
I have to admit that I adore the little feet on that towel; Ethan does too (as well as the whole penguin theme). So we’re painting the walls, now that we have a colour palette to start with. I’ll keep you updated.

Furniture
‘But wait!’ you say, ‘You haven’t given those furniture pictures yet!’ True. I was making you wade through the other aspects of my life first (or at least skim the surface thanks to photos). So I’ll get straight to it…

Victor approves.
We.love.this.furniture. The living room, cleared of all but stuff that we’ve bought ourselves, free of hand-me-downs, is now fully and completely OURS. The furniture is a bit on the big size, but we’re dealing admirably with that. The chair, my seat of joy, is huuuge – about the size the old loveseat was – and perfect to curl up in with a book (or, you know, a small child if I have to). The loveseat is Ethan’s favourite place to sit. The couch is too high for Victor to get up on his own (he uses the ottoman, an inch or two shorter than the chair, to get up on the chair), but that won’t last for too much longer we’re sure. It has, however, passed the greatest test for us for a couch – the double-snuggle test. Ken lies down, I lie down in front of him. As long as I don’t fall off it’s good, if there’s extra room so that I don’t *feel* like I’m on the precipice, it’s perfect. Our couch is perfect. The ottoman is the size of a crib mattress, and doubles as space for my legs when I curl up and sleep in the chair (like last night for a quickie nap). LOVE. The ottoman is on rollers, don’t love, but we’re slowly training the boys to not roll it around. The furniture came with an unseemly amount of pillows, so we’ve taken all but three out of the living room (to save them being destroyed by the boys) and they’re in the office on the futon and look great in there, too. I love the living room so much that I’m undertaking the ridiculously time-consuming task of making a matching afghan for the couch. I start it tonight.

Outdoors
We’ve been busy, as have our plants. Everything, even stuff I was sure wouldn’t survive, is thriving! We found one leaf of the rhubarb had been torn off, and then nothing else touched. Lets hope the deer remember that lesson! I’m always a late seed-planter so today I continued that trend and planted some starters for tomatoes, hostas and lemongrass. It’s looking like I won’t have my big garden this year – there’s too much ground work to do before we have beds ready – but I can at least have my beloved tomatoes and get the hosta bed and some lemongrass established before fall. My double-daffy’s have bloomed and look lovely, the lavender has been growing like mad, and I planted the dogwood shrub under the front window. I also bought some pretty’s (flowers) for the front step and planted some seeds for hanging baskets and flowers. Ken, however, has been a mad-man and decided to move the sorry looking, old rock wall we had along the roadside. He’s shifting it back about 8′ and making it straight and pretty and the ground in front of it level(ish) and nice looking too. He’s not nearly done, but even what’s moved already looks great! I’ll take some pics tomorrow, if the weather co-operates. I’m planning on planting a whole mess of daffodils or lilies down around the mailbox, once we’ve moved it. It’s going to look great!

I think that’s about it, for now. We’re silly busy but love this kind of stuff. I hope you, too, are happy with how things are for you right now. If not, go do something productive. It can’t but help.

Addiction

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I definitely understand the full breadth of how soap-making is addictive.  As soon as I make one batch I’ve got 2 or 4 more that I want to try.  I make a new scent and have 10 more in the sidelines waiting for me.  It’s like going into Payless with $75 for just one pair of shoes.

So I made a coffee scented batch of scrubby soap yesterday.  I’m going to call it “Double Double, Toil and Trouble” in a nod to my favourite Tim Horton’s coffee (medium, double-double).  It smells like that (or, for you Starbucks folks, like a Frappuccino) but has coffee grounds in it that will make a great scrubby soap for dirty hands (garden/kitchen/mechanic/etc).

Next on the list is a manly smelling shea soap, and THEN is the new soap I just found the right recipe for: Castile Soap!  Super mild and more work than other soaps but I wanna try.  It’ll take forever, too, so though I’ll make it as soon as the new scent for it arrives it’ll have to cure for 6wks (instead of the usual 2-3).  June seems a long ways off, from here in mid April.  *le sigh*

SoaPaint

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

I wonder, is it even possible for me to make a post these days without mentioning soap? :P

I did a pH test of allll my soaps today, just to see how everything matches up. The most recent two batches still need to cure some, but otherwise they’re good to go (though I forgot to do the CocoLoco – must remember!). Now I just need to make up labels and do the ribbons and such. I think I’ll have Ken cut the paper at work, since I don’t have a cutter.

On the subject of paint, however, is today. We’re painting, that is. One wall, so we’re not going crazy or anything. We figured it’d be best to paint the living room and dining room before the furniture arrives (so it can scuff new paint when it’s delivered). The dining room is first since 1) we wanted to start small, and 2) we’re basing the living rm colour off the dining rm colour. I’ll do a before/after photo (promise, this time! see? I’m going now to take the pic!) for once. We’re painting after the boys go to bed, though I don’t know what we’ll do for the living rm. Kate and Austin are coming to visit in 2wks, so maybe we can rope them into playing with the boys while we paint.

45 minutes later…

Done! That went fast, and well. Check it, peeps!

You can’t tell as well in the photos but the wall is a light, leaf green (same as our bedroom – not that you’ll be seeing that) and perfectly matches the curtains in the living room beyond. We’re going to do the wall opposite this tomorrow night and the living room will be done one wall at a time starting next weekend (likely) in a slightly darker green than this. Yay paint!

Oh Friday, My Friday

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Yesterday felt SO much like friday that I had to constantly repeat myself that it wasn’t. There was one more day left. Unfortunately it’s a day where Ken will likely be working super late tonight so it’s just me with the boys allllllll day. Fortunately he shouldn’t have to go into work this weekend *knock on wood*. We were going to do yard work this weekend but it’s all rainy for the next 24hrs or so and that makes raking leaves… frustrating. We did, however, move the tree that fell on our house last night. (Yeah, windy day the other day knocked an old rotted tree onto the corner of our house. Thankfully only the gutter was dented some and no other damage.) With some lax communication between Ken and I (he “went” on 1, I expected to drop it on 0) I’m developing a lovely bruise on my wrist where the tree bit me. At least I didn’t break it like I first thought. Strongly right handed + broken right wrist makes a baaaaad combination for a SAHM.

So friday means no bento making (which is both good and bad) and therefore means more soap making. I’ve got a simply delicious new scent called “Baby Bee” that’s just … amazing. I can’t describe it well, but it’s sweet and yummy and one of those that you just want to keep smelling and smelling. I can’t wait til the soap’s done!

Yesterday Victor showed that, as long as he doesn’t have toys in his hands, he can execute a perfect somersault, too. He’s been watching Ethan and imitating the rolling and now if we tell him to “bend over” chances are that he’ll roll for us. The funny part is that he basically bends over and touches his head to his toes and then pushes a little. Read that part again. Touches.his.head.to.his.toes. While standing. I wonder, sometimes, given his super-bendy-ness and how well balanced he is, if we shouldn’t train him to be a circus performer. :P

Peppermint Tingles

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Finally I got the Peppermint Shampoo Bar to cut, though I won’t get much sellable bars from it because more than half the batch has crumbly, unattractive edges – much of these bars will likely end up as samples.  However, I think next time if I leave it to cure a week, as a loaf, turning every other day, I should be fine.  A lot of work for a shampoo bar, but hopefully worth it.

Since I was able to cut it, I tried some this morning.  Strange, rubbing a shampoo bar into your hair/foaming up your hands and working it in, and since I have long and rather thick hair it took longer than would traditional, liquid shampoo would.  That being said, it was a surprisingly pleasant experience.  The peppermint, as I wanted it to be, left a light cooling feeling on my scalp that is continuing on through this morning.  It’s cooling like when you dip your hand in cool water and take it out and a random draft gently blows over it.  Got that? ;)   Cooling just shy of a tingling, which I think is the right amount since too much of this I do think would be, well, too much.  I don’t dry my hair, I braid it and let the air do that, so I can’t speak for it’s texture completely until tonight.  However, the top parts that are dry are really soft and when I was combing it out it was very not tangly (which I worried it would be since I didn’t use conditioner).  I’ll have a better idea of what my hair thinks later.
I made another batch of soap yesterday that I’m still waiting to judge.  I used neem oil and though I know it’s smelly I wasn’t prepared for just how much that smell would permeate the whole batch (despite only using a small amount).  I scented it with Lemongrass essential oil, and I’m hoping it won’t be a problem.  The neem, though, turned the whole batch a dark mustard colour, which I find interesting.  I’ve been thinking about trying natural colourants, though I am limited in what colours I can get.

I picked up some new packaging supplies for the soaps.  Surprisingly (ha) I’m not happy with off-white paper on off-white soap.  I’m also considering using small organza bags (in various colours) to “wrap up” the soaps in.  Any opinions?

Oh Honestly!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Last night I did the most bone-headed thing while making my soap.  For a while now I’ve been wanting to make a batch strictly for my own whims.  I love Lilac and I really like the sweet almond facial soap and wanted to try making a purple batch of soap.  Bring it all together and you have me, last night, working.  Everything went well (though the colour’s a bit darker than I’d intended, it’s still ok) and I got to my pouring stage, poured and sat back, admiring how well it poured and how nicely it was going to cut up.  And then my brain BOOTED me with the reminder/headsmack that I’d forgotten to add the scent.  DOH!  So I took a chance decided to take advantage of the situation to experiment and see if I could add the scent to the mold and stir it in (since, when I add it to the pot I’m mixing it I generally stir it in).  It worked, sortof.  It would have worked better had the scent not been an accelerator (some scents accelerate saponification, most don’t) and as I stirred it started to firm up *fast*.

So it’s cut this morning, there’s variations in the colour that I’m not crazy about (though it may dry so that you can’t see them), and the texture may not be as smooth as I’m happy with.  I’ll have to see once it’s cured and I can test it on me.  I’m not concerned at all about the soap’s ability to clean/moisturize and, in fact, this batch should be more moisturizing than previous ones because of a change I made, but the texture and appearance may be an issue.  It may be this batch really *is* all for me, since I’m willing to accept flawed soap but not willing to sell it.

Ahh well.  These things happen to remind us of what not to do.

Ups and Downs of Soap (and Life)

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I may have my first failed batch of soap. The shampoo bar is just not curing well and any time I try to cut it it’s soft and crumbly. I’m going to leave it a week and try again to see if that helps, but I’m not too optimistic right now. Ahh well. I’ll stick to what’s working: hard soaps.

Over the past two days I’ve made two batches of soap (I’m really pleased with being able to get them done despite Ken not being home). One was a German Chocolate Cake scented Coco Loco soap. The level of chocolate scent is just in.sane. I’ve got them cut and curing downstairs (they cut beautifully, so it’s going to be a nice hard bar) in the basement and it’s a good thing they’re down there because that scent is positively distracting! The bad part is that it’s sitting right next to the peppermint and the two combined are just… wow. I coloured this one a red-on-red swirl that I think looks really nice.

The picture makes it look more pink than it is, but still. Pretty!Last night I made another new batch, a Citrus & Teakwood scented Winter-Sun soap. I haven’t cut it yet but the scent holds nicely and it looks to be another winner. I’ve been trying out colouring and I may have goofed a bit last night and not mixed well enough (so the colour isn’t as good as it could be) but we’ll see once it’s cut later today.

I’ll be picking up some new packaging ideas this weekend – instead of paper/wrapped labels I’m going to go with printed sticky labels on the back of the wrapping. For colour I’ll be picking up some ribbon to wrap around each bar. We’ll see how they look, later.

The worst part of this is, still, waiting. I want to try the soaps NOW, not in a week or more! Especially that chocolate!

So that’s the soap part. Life is going ok. Ken’s been able to come home not too late and I’ve been feeling more productive and less depressed. I even made us bento for today (which is the first thing to go when I’m feeling energy-drained). I’ve got a lot of work to do, but aren’t feeling overwhelmed by it (except for the website programming *le sigh*). Anybody willing to trade soap for programming?

Minty Fresh

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Well, Ken only had to work til 6 last night so we had dinner together (yay!) and then I had time to make some soap (yay!!).  I opted for the shampoo bar I’ve been wanting to try.  Peppermint scented and WOW does the house smell minty fresh! :o   This one might take some extra curing time since this morning it’s still touch-soft and no other soaps have done that.  It also traced insanely quickly, so I’m sure glad I’m familiar with the look and feel of trace instead of depending on temperature changes!  The temp didn’t have time to change before it traced and I had to work super quick to get the scent in and get it molded before it was going to seize in the pan, yikes!

If all goes well and it’s hardened enough I’ll remove it from the mold and let it sit as is for the rest of the day (assuming it’ll hold shape) and make some soap here in the office.  I’m pretty excited about that prospect since it’ll mean I can make soap almost whenever I want instead of waiting for night-times when Ken’s home or weekends.

With Ken being home early last night we were able to touch-base a bit more on our emotional needs during his crazy work schedule and we’re both feeling better because of it.  This morning, too, he said that things might slowly start to get better – staying til 7 instead of 10 at night.  A few hours can make a huge difference!

This weekend we’re going back to the furniture to take care of some paperwork we didn’t before and I’m also going to take pictures and get dimensional stats of the furniture, so I’ll be able to organize the living room and show you what we’re getting.  I’m ridiculously excited.  I’ve missed them, so! ;)

Into Something Useful

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Today, be it because of the sunshine and exercise I got yesterday, walking up the BIG hill and down the road to the locksmith’s place because I locked my keys in the car (for the first time, ever!). It was running, too. Good thing Ken gassed it up and there was a locksmith nearby. So. Today, because I’m feeling more proactive about this depression thing, I’m going to try and figure a way around it. Or through it. Pick up the pieces and organize them into something useful. Sunshine is coming back, warmth is… well… stalling, but it’ll come, twitter birds are twittering like mad, crocuses are on the BRINK of blooming HAVE BLOOMED (the yellow ones, which are always earliest). (Ken, who’s never had crocuses before, is stunned that they’re going to bloom so early and was stunned further when I told him that back home they regularly bloom through snow.)

So depression makes me not want to do anything. Especially for other people. I’ve been slacking major on cooking and making our bentos because it takes a lot of time and I have zero energy. But I can try, so I will try.

I need to get soap made, and to figure out how to do it irregardless of whether Ken is home or not. I figure I can do things in stages…prep my work area and measure ingredients all in advance. The biggest problem is that I can’t mix the lye solution in advance or heat/melt the oils/butters in advance or mix them – which all takes a chunk of time and makes noise and I have to do it away from the boys (currently in the garage). At the very least, this morning I cut out a bunch of mold liners for the next round of batches, so there’s *one* thing less to do. Maybe I can mix it all up in the office. I’ve the coffee table right in front of the window that I could open while mixing my lye up (fumes) and could still hear the boys if they need me. Perhaps there’s my solution…

Well, solution or not I’ll have to mull it over while I start making lunch. Victor’s hungry (and teething, so he’s more than impatient), so other I’ve work to do. I’ll have to hope this positive energy continues.

Kicking My Butt (again)

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I’ve had another post with that title. No surprise, that. This time it’s the boys who’re driving me nuts (when isn’t it?). Ethan is being very cute and sweet… when he’s not being a little shit and clinging to me like a wet noodle and never giving me a moment alone. Victor is being Super Whiny Boy and cries/screams/whines at the drop of a hat (or the possibility of a hat, somewhere, falling to the ground). I’m bordering on running away and mixing up some “special” kool aid for the boys (kidding, calm down!).

I remember a stage, about now, that Ethan went through similar to Victor now wherein he drove me nuts and was just an adorable sweet pain in my ass. I know it will pass. I will.

I also know we have some new house rules:

  1. No more bottles for Victor (they’re too easy to drip all over the carpet and make messes with).
  2. No more drinking juice/milk unless you’re sitting at the table.
  3. Only water is allowed to wander around the house. (our water has legs, doesn’t yours?)
  4. Ethan is to be potty trained immediately starting immediately and with no learning curve. Where’s that switch?
  5. Mommy is allowed to drink a lot more and whenever she needs it because holy.crap.people.

I’ve an order of soap making supplies due to be delivered today, but given it’s already 3pm I have my doubts it’s going to arrive. That sucks. I had my hopes all up in that. Well it arrived, but one of the liquid’s had a faulty cap and spilled a bit – not much that I can tell, but still ugh. It’s here, though, so maybe I’ll cook up something tonight. At least there’s a Max & Ruby marathon tomorrow afternoon. Ethan’ll be glued to the tele for that, let me tell you! *eyes ROLL at how pathetic I am*
