I’ve finished wrapping everything for Ken – at least, everything that’s arrived. I’m still waiting on one small thing and the large, unwrappable, which will arrive on Saturday. If, between now and Saturday, our driveway doesn’t magically clear itself of the several inches of ice/snow covering it… um… well… Ken will be helping the delivery dude(s) carry his unwrappable up the hill. Maybe I’ll run down, first, and slap a bow on before he gets to the delivery truck.
This past weekend went… well? I’ll have pictures up later. It was fantastic seeing everyone and we and the boys got too many lovely presents (which now end up being much source of fighting between said boys but, ah well). The tough spot was just everything to do with travel and staying elsewhere and having our boys. Active. Finicky sleepers. Trouble-makers. We’ve decided that we’re doing any and all holiday celebrations here from now on. At least for the next few years. We just can’t take the stress.
Funny it ended up that way as, Thursday night before we left, Ken and I realized that we’d both decided to “do it up proper” next year. We don’t do the religious side of things, but we do like to honour the solstice (and I honour my deities), and we want a tree with decorations and stockings with little wrapped things in them and candies and citrus fruit in the toe. We want the house decorated and lit up. We may, even, want to include Santa. We’ve previously been against Santa, but maybe we’re wrong in keeping our kids from enjoying the magic?
So this year I’ve got some work cut out for me. I need to finish the cross-stitch tree-skirt that Ken got me a few years ago and *try* to find either the matching stockings (out of production, I believe) or something else or knit them… I haven’t decided. Just those will take a long time.
So the boys presents need to be wrapped, and then I’m ready. We’ll be celebrating Yule on Saturday (Friday night or Saturday night for Ken and myself, we haven’t decided) with the boys. I was hoping we’d have snow but with a weird spike in temp it’s looking like it’ll all be melty and be untobogganable. Ahh well. Maybe we’ll bake cookies as a family, instead.
I wish you a Merry Yule, with yours.

To you and yours as well, and thanks for the birthday wishes.

It sounds like you had a great time. It is always nice to spend Christmas at your own home and you are so talented you will make it look beautiful. Thanks for the beautiful card. Wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I wish I could send you some of our snow. We have close to two feet on the ground more than we have had for several years and it has been cold. I will be alone on Christmas but will make the most of the day. As I will go to church and sing in the choir for the mass.
